What other explorers ask
How much does it cost to use Stravagando as an explorer?
It's 100% free. No subscriptions, no card required. The free tier includes the map, notebook, check-ins, routes, challenges, achievements, leaderboard and community.
Do I need to download an app?
No: Stravagando works from any browser, mobile included. No app stores, no hundreds of MB downloads. Installable PWA is on the way.
How do routes work?
A route is a multi-stop itinerary: open the track on the map, reach each checkpoint and check in when you're there. Once the route is complete, you unlock the achievement. You can follow curated ones or create your own.
What are challenges?
Challenges are themed goals — sometimes timed — like "visit 5 villages" or "conquer a province". Each challenge has its own leaderboard: complete it to win a trophy and climb the podium.
Are my check-ins public?
You decide. By default your profile is private. You can make it public anytime to climb the explorers leaderboard and share your travels with the community.
Can I add a place that's not there yet?
Yes. There's a community-curated place proposal system: you suggest, editors verify and publish. Your proposal stays credited with your nickname.
What are the XP I collect for?
XP determine your explorer level. Each new check-in is worth 10 base XP, first visits to a town/province/region grant 20/30/100 XP bonuses, each approved photo of a "virgin" place is worth up to 30 XP. Leveling up unlocks aspirational ranks (Explorer, Pioneer, Myth) all the way to the supreme rank of Custodian.
How many levels are there and how long does it take to reach the top?
There are 60 levels. Climbing to Level 5 (Explorer) requires ~1,500 XP — about a month of active weekend travel. The supreme Custodian rank (L60) requires 183,000 total XP: designed as a lifetime goal, not something to grind in weeks. The curve is soft-quadratic: early levels climb fast, then become a real challenge.
What happens after reaching the maximum level?
At Level 60 you unlock the Prestige system: you can reset your level to 1 while keeping your lifetime XP and earn a permanent "Custodian ★" badge (then ★★, ★★★). 365-day cooldown between consecutive prestiges to discourage farming. Built for the most dedicated Custodians who want to restart the journey without losing recognition.
Who are the "Atlas Custodians"?
The Custodians are the lifetime Hall of Fame: the explorers who contributed most to mapping the territory (verified check-ins, photos, first visitors, quality stories). It's permanent recognition — even when you leave the seasonal leaderboard, you remain in the Custodians' pantheon. Public on /custodi.
